The Compatible Unit Properties dialog box is used to make changes to the properties of a selected compatible unit.

Changing a unit's costs and other properties redefines the unit in the Units Catalog only; units that are already assigned to designs are unchanged. Since costs for a design are calculated dynamically as units are assigned, subsequent changes to a unit's cost values do not affect designs to which the unit has already been assigned. The properties and components of retired units cannot be changed.

If you do not have the authority to administer public units, you cannot save changes to public units using the Compatible Unit Properties dialog box. You can change the Labor Type and Work Type settings to see the effect on costs, but these changes will not be saved in the Units Catalog. To override the default Labor Type and Work Type properties for a unit that you want to assign to a specific design, you can specify different settings in the Design Assistant using the Labor Type and Work Type boxes of the Design toolbar. The Compatible Units Properties dialog box can be accessed from the Units view, from the Unit Assistant, and from the Design Assistant (Units Catalog view).
